Kidneys are both an organ and a gland. The part of the kidneys that respond better near your interpretation, is the supracortical area, which is located on the top of the kidneys. There you'll find that they cloak a variety of hormones, which take home them a gland and also part of the endocrine system. The kidneys have both regulatory and hormonal functions. The regulatory functions control fluid, electrolyte and acid-base harmonize. The hormonal functions control red blood cell formation, blood pressure and vitamin D activation.
Erythropoietin is produced and released in response to decrease oxygen tension within the renal blood supply. Erythropoietin triggers RBC production in the bone marrow. When kidney tissue is non functional, erythropoietin production decrease and the person become anemic.
