an untreated abcess can cause a trunk infection, that could spread to the blood causing sepsis which can be greatly serious and sometimes fatal.
My mom know a doctor who died of an infected tooth.

depends where it is.. if it is within your mouth..then i dont reckon so..but if it is the very support of your mouth then it can swell to flood the back of your throat..than i am afraid you are going to die..be brave and pop it ..afterwards swill with saline water,,worked for me.otherwise see your DR
