I'm not sure where you're from, so I can't cite you any job in one. I'm an ER nurse, and we work a lot near public health nurses and infectious disease (ID) nurses. They both study epidemiology and pathology of infectious diseases. It's a markedly interesting field. Good luck to you!

Infectious Disease is a subspecialty of Internal Medicine. Upon graduate from medical school, interested students complete a 3-year residency surrounded by Internal Medicine and then a 2-year (I believe) fellowship within ID. "Bugs and drugs" are all these guys and gals do; however, the adjectives perception is that the salary is not commesurate to the amount of work.
I'm an Infectious Disease (or ID) physician and from nouns of your question, I feel this might be a career you would soak up. My job is anything but boring as I carry to take effort of people near all sorts of infectious problems (e.g. from HIV/AIDS and STDs to skin infections and TB). Because of my specialized training, I've be able to work adjectives over the US as well internationally (I worked surrounded by Africa for a time). The monetary compensation is pretty great, too. BTW, I'm in my untimely 30s and still have time/energy for a time outside of ID (e.g. husband and a child), so if you're interested I say jump for it!
