I have itchy stinging vein in my calves and awful sore tired lower legs, and feet which bring back hot and sore. I've been told this is Claudication and can develop into or is already Flebitis? Will I involve surgery ?Can Flebitis be relieved beside medication ?
Phlebitis and claudication are totally unrelated conditions.
Claudication is muscle pain on exertion affecting the legs. It is due to narrowing of the ARTERIES contained by the legs due to cholesterol deposits. It is virtually confined to smokers,( and a few rare patients next to familial hyperlipidaemias.) It may require surgery.
Phlebitis is a minor inflammatory condition of the superficial VEINS.
At home, you can take an anti-inflammatory such as aspirin or ibuprofen, start or increase walking, use medical socks, avoid resting within bed, go to a Doctor.
